These rules are the current tournament rules. Final tournament rules will be sent out two weeks prior to the tournament.

Tournament Rules – Updated (02/04/2017)

  1. The entire tournament will be setup as a double elimination tournament. Since this is only a 1-day event, there will not be a pool play round.
  2. Games will be 4 innings in length, 50 minutes in length, hard stop at 60 minutes. No new inning can start after 50 minutes. Existing inning must be complete by 60 minute mark, or score will roll back to previous inning. Should the game end in a tie, each team will select 1 batter who will be pitched 5 pitches from their own teammate. A coin toss will determine who goes first. If you win the coin toss, you get to select who goes first. The batter who hits the most home runs will break the tie. Should there still be a tie after the first home run round, each team must pick a second (cannot be the same) batter and repeat the process. The order is automatically swapped. If after the second round, there is not a winner, there will be a sudden death round where any batter is eligible and only one pitch will be pitched per team / batter. Order will be based on the order after the original coin flip in overtime. Next home run wins.
  3. Championship Games: Game will be 4 innings in length, no time limit. In this games, there will be a 10 run limit rule in the first 3 innings, unlimited in the last inning. If game is tied after 4 innings, the same tie breaker as Rule # 2 will be in effect.
  4. Decisions regarding changing of the tournament schedule due to stoppages resulting from inclement weather and all other unique situations will be made by the tournament director.
  5. Each game pre-championship game will have a single umpire calling outs. This is a charity event and a strict sportsmanship rule will be enforced. In the championship division, there will be a tournament official also overseeing each game. Should there be a call dispute, each team coach can donate $10 to the event and request a tournament official ruling. This tournament official’s rule is final, regardless of whether the call is reversed or not.
  6. Teams will consist of 7 to 12 players. Games can start with 5 players but cannot finish with less than 6 players. Should a player get injured, games can finish with only 5 players, provided it started with 6. Since all the players on the team must be in the batting lineup, free substitutions are permitted throughout the game, including pitchers.

  7. Playing Rules

    General:

  8. No Metal cleats permitted
  9. Balls and Bats will be provided by the tournament. Teams cannot use their own equipment during the games. Official WIFFLE balls and WIFFLE ball bats will be used during the tournament.
  10. Rules may be amended and announced prior to the start of any game. Amendments will be announced to each team captain and published prior to event start (if possible).

  11. Championship and Youth Completive Divisions:

    Roster:

  12. Each team must provide the official game roster to the umpire at the pre-game meeting by the team captain or coach. Each team must bat the entire roster. Rosters can be changed from game to game, but not during the game. Players on each roster can only play on one team per division throughout the tournament. If a player gets injured during the game, he/she can be replaced in the field with someone else from their roster. That player will also be skipped in the batting order, but once skipped, cannot return to the line up. If the the injured player causes the team to have less than 7 batters in the line up, that team will be forced to take an out in the injured players position. This is to prevent teams from manipulating the lineup to gain an advantage. Appeals can be made to the tournament director if this situation becomes an issue.

  13. Batting:

  14. Lineup must be provided to the umpire and score keeper prior to the game. Batters batting out of order with an official pitch thrown, will be automatically called out, tracked by the tournament official/score keeper. Score keeper may request batter’s name to confirm position in order.
  15. Batters are not permitted to: Bunt, Intentional half swing
  16. Batters must use bats provided by the tournament and no adjustments can be made to the tournament bats provided. Bats that will be used are the standard yellow WIFFLE ball bats.
  17. Teams will pitch to themselves and get a maximum of 5 pitches for each at bat. If a fair hit is not achieved in the 5 pitches, the batter is called out.

  18. Base-Running:

  19. Standard baseball base running will apply, except for: No stealing, No Leading. Players may leave the base once the batter attempts to swing.

  20. Pitching:
    10. Teams will pitch to themselves, only 5 pitches permitted per batter, batter not hitting the ball after 5 pitches will be called out. This rule is meant to keep pace of play moving. Pitchers will not play defense so defensive team can choose to play a defender next to the pitcher. Batting team pitcher must do their best to stay out of the defensive play, interference can be called at the discretion of the captains.

    Fielding:

  21. Teams can field up to 7 players, minimum of 6 players. Teams must have a catcher and a home-run roamer. Rest of fielding positioning is up to the teams.
  22. Home-run roamer: This is a player who plays on the home-run side of the fence. For balls that are hit over the fence, if the home-run roamer can catch the ball, they will turn the home-run into a ground-rule double. Teams can position the outfield roamer anywhere in the field, on the other side of the fence.
  23. Standard baseball rules are in effect except for:
    • No Infield Fly rule exists
    • Defensive players can get an out by striking a base-runner with the ball below the head. Players who are hit in the head are not out and are awarded two bases. Players will be warned if they hit a player in the head. If they hit a second player in the head, they will be removed from the teams fielding defense for the inning (with no replacement) and not permitted to play in the field the remainder of the game. The tournament official has final judgment on intent of hits to head and has authority to overrule this rule during game play to insure fairness.

  24. Family Friendly Division:

    Roster:

  25. Rosters are open. Teams should do their best to keep the roster the same throughout the game. Players should remain in the same order through the game.

  26. Batting:

  27. Batters are not permitted to: Bunt, Intentional half swing
  28. Batters must use bats provided by the tournament and no adjustments can be made to the tournament bats provided. Bats that will be used are the standard yellow WIFFLE ball bats.
  29. Teams will pitch to themselves and get a maximum of 6 pitches for each at bat. If a fair hit is not achieved in the 6 pitches, the batter is called out.

  30. Base-Running:

  31. Standard baseball base running will apply, except for: No stealing, No Leading. Players may leave the base once the batter attempts to swing.

  32. Pitching:

  33. Teams will pitch to themselves, only 6 pitches permitted per batter, batter not hitting the ball after 6 pitches will be called out. This rule is meant to keep pace of play moving. Pitchers will not play defense so defensive team can choose to play a defender next to the pitcher. Batting team pitcher must do their best to stay out of the defensive play, interference can be called at the discretion of the captains.

  34. Fielding:

  35. Teams can field up to 8 players. Teams must have a catcher. Rest of fielding positioning is up to the teams. Teams can field the remainder of their roster in the outfield on the other side of the outfield fence and act as “home-run roamers”. Should a batter hit a ball over the fence and a home-run roamer catches the ball, the batter is awarded a ground rule double and not a home run
  36. Standard baseball rules are in effect except for:
    • No Infield Fly rule exists
    • Base-runners can only get out by either tagging then while holding the ball or touching the base (on a force) before the runner touches the base. In this division, throwing a ball at a player to get them out is not allowed.
