4th Annual Owen Wicks Scholarship Award Recipient

On June 3rd, the fourth annual Owen Wicks Memorial Scholarship was awarded to Megan Westmoreland. Megan graduated Summa Cum Laude (GPA 3.75 – 3.9) from Liberty High School in Bealeton, Virginia on May 25, 2017.

This scholarship is in remembrance of 16 year old, Owen Wicks, who fought and lost his battle with Osteosarcoma (bone cancer) in 2012. The Owen Wicks Memorial Scholarship recognizes students pursuing an undergraduate degree in Science and who also displays a compassion for helping others within their community. This award is to help ensure that Owen’s sense of humor, perseverance in the face of overwhelming obstacles, and passion for helping others are his legacy that will be remembered for years to come.

Megan was awarded this scholarship based on her plans to attend the University of Mary Washington, where she will major in Biology. Megan has been active in community service throughout her childhood. She has volunteered with Toys for Tots, mentors younger children as part of the big buddy system, and actively helps others through her participation in the National Honor Society. Megan has also volunteered countless hours helping WestRash Charities raise over $200,000 for various charitable organizations over the past 14 years.

Megan & Deena Scholarship Award

There is a quote by John Wesley on the scholarship award that exemplifies both Owen and Megan’s commitment to helping others:

“Do all the good you can, in all the ways you can, to all the souls you can, at all the times you can,

With all the zeal you can, as long as ever you can”

Please join us in congratulating Megan on her scholarship award.  We wish her all the best as she pursues her dreams.
